What is Bhagyank? Meaning and how to calculate it
Bhagyank (भाग्यांक) is the destiny number of Indian numerology: every digit of the full date of birth added together and reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9. It is also called the life-path number.
What Bhagyank means
The word joins भाग्य (bhagya), fortune or destiny, and अंक (ank), number.
The tradition reads it as the direction your life tends toward, its openings and its lessons, rather than who you are, which is the question the Mulank answers.

How to calculate your Bhagyank
Write the date of birth as digits and add them all: 15 August 1990 is 1 + 5 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 33, and 3 + 3 = 6. Reducing the day, the month and the year separately first always gives the same digit.

Method and sources
- Numbers: the Indian system, every number reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9 (no master numbers), each ruled by a graha: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars. Western numerology following Cheiro gives 4 to Uranus and 7 to Neptune instead.
- Friendly and unfriendly numbers: the natural friendships of the grahas in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, the same rule Guna Milan uses, with Rahu standing in for Saturn and Ketu for Mars (“Shanivat Rahu, Kujavat Ketu”).
- Name numbers: the Chaldean letter values, as Cheiro published them, for names written in English letters.
- Colours, days, gemstones and mantras: those of the ruling graha in Jyotish. Other numerologists give other days and colours, especially for 4 and 7, whose grahas rule no weekday.
- Readings are traditions, not predictions: nothing here is medical, financial or legal advice, or a reason to make a decision on its own.
