Traditions differ on the morning: most take the day Chaturdashi prevails at arunodaya, some the day it prevails at moonrise. Kali Chaudas, kept in Gujarat, is often observed on the night before, when Chaturdashi covers midnight. In Tamil Nadu and much of the south, Deepavali itself is celebrated on this morning.
