Remedies for each direction that is not ideal
- Add plants and a light shade. Greenery and shade soften the heat this corner receives
- Add a sunshade or tall potted plants. Shade and greenery balance an opening on the south side
- Keep heavier seating and planters along the outer edge. Weight on this side leaves the openness to the north and east
- Keep heavy planters and seating on this balcony. Weight here restores some of the solidity the south-west is meant to have
- Screen part of the outer side. A solid railing or wooden screen makes the opening less exposed in the earth corner
- Add sunshades or wooden screens. Shading the west opening softens the harsh afternoon light
- Keep it open, airy, and uncluttered. A clear balcony lets the air corner do its work
